The morning started with the Mile Run for all teams. The rest of the day was unique as far as NCC schedules go. In order to allow the schedule to have free time for the cadets not competing, the events were doubled up so that two Drill Team and two Color Guard events occurred at the same time. This allowed the teams to relax with a BBQ at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum under the Spruce Goose. The Color Guard teams competed in Standard Drill, Outdoor Presentation, and Indoor Presentation. The Drill Teams competed in Standard Drill and Innovative Drill.
In the afternoon, Gen. William M. Fraser III, USAF Vice Chief of Staff, arrived at McMinnville while the competition events were occurring. Gen. Fraser will be the honorable guest speaker at the Awards Banquet Sunday. "Gen. Fraser is the highest ranking officer we have ever had as a guest speaker at NCC", proudly remarked LtCol. Roger Middleton, Director of NCC.

The 2009 National Cadet Competition is being held at the Linfield College and the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon. Thursday, July 9, is the first day of the Competition that consisted of the staff diligently working to make the last-minute and the in-processing of the teams. Sixteen teams were transported from Portland Airport to McMinnville where they attended a Meet and Greet general meeting. The meeting was opened with comments from our National Commander, Maj Gen Amy Courter, who gave high praise to the Competition and the competitors. Tomorrow is the first day of competitive events. The Drill Teams and Color Guard Teams will have Inspection, the Written Exam, and the Panel Quiz events. The Drill Teams will also be having their Volleyball competition. Photo of the events will be posted on the Photo Gallery link to the left. |
